In 2008 Dorchester Bay launched the Commonwealth’s first CDC-based reentry program for ex-offenders returning to their community. Using our organizing expertise, we have forged partnerships with the attorney general’s office, police department, house of corrections, training programs and other non-profit service partners in this important collaborative effort. In addition clients come to us through halfway houses, pre-release centers and word of mouth.
Our goal is to ensure a smooth and safe reentry into the community by providing support at the prison and job readiness assistance to ex-offenders upon their release. We have exceeded expectations in recidivism rates (6%). We have served over 600 ex-offenders since 2008, about 75 new clients yearly, with an average of 55 clients finding employment each year, or accepted into a career training or GED program (over 70% success rate).
“Peace, This message is directed at you! My name is Damon. I have been dealing with the reentry staff at Dorchester Bay for 4 strong years! Since my first visit I have been treated and welcomed like family, even during my cloudy days! The overwhelming support, encouragement, counseling, networking, and an abundance of resources has allowed me to survive during the unemployment stretches.”
