Membership

The Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation (DBEDC) is a membership organization. This means the power of the organization lies in the hands of our members. While the board of directors of the organization makes day-to-day decisions about the organization, ultimately, the board is responsible to the interests and desires of the members. All initiatives that the Dorchester Bay Community Development Corporation undertakes are those desired by our members!

We hope you will decide to become a member of the Dorchester Bay EDC- there is strength in numbers and in diversity of perspectives.

To help you decide if you would like to become a member, we outline details of membership below:

Who is eligible for membership?

We have three categories of members: (1) residents of Dorchester Bay properties, (2) owners of businesses in Dorchester, and (3) other persons whose activities or interests demonstrate a clear stake in Dorchester Bay, and are consistent with the purpose of the CDC.  Additionally, All members must be at least 18 years of age.

How much does membership cost?

Membership costs $5 per year. The Dorchester Bay EDCwanted to make membership affordable so that people from all income levels and backgrounds could become members relatively easily. Each member will receive a membership card.

While individuals can have a membership so too can households, organizations, and businesses. For example, if the Jones household of 5 wants a membership, they may purchase one membership for the household, rather than 5 membership per person in the household.

What are the benefits of membership?

Membership enables members to vote in annual Dorchester Bay EDC board elections and on issues that the board may put up for a vote. This is where the power of membership lies - the ability to vote. Every membership gets one vote.

So, if the Jones family of 5 buys one membership for the household, then they get only one vote. If they want 6 votes, then this family would have to purchase 5 memberships, one for each person in the household. One membership = one vote. When voting time comes, members must bring their membership card as proof of eligibility to vote. No card, no vote.

Other benefits of membership include the ability to voice your opinion at meetings on issues you would like the Dorchester Bay EDC to tackle, work on committees that address issues of importance to you, and network with other people who love Dorchester Bay and want to work to make it the best community it can be.
