Reentry
Re-Entry ProgramUphams Dudley Reentry Program - Dorchester Bay launched the first CDC-based re-entry program for ex-offenders returning to their community. We are working with 32 young men this year. Using our organizing expertise, we have pulled together the attorney general’s office, police, corrections, and other non-profit service partners in this important collaborative. Our goal is to ensure a smooth and safe reentry into the community by providing supports, including our own housing, and job assistance. In 2010, 98 people were helped, and “Don’t give up searching for a job if you have a CORI, because you can get one.” David Martins, Ex-offender and VINFEN Employee
Uphams Dudley Safe Neighborhood Initiative is a coalition of crime watches that closely monitors hot spots to reduce crime and get offenders to stop committing crimes. This is the vehicle in which public safety issues get voiced and addressed by community residents and the police department collectively. This effort is primarily resident driven, but with some assistance from organizers at Dorchester Bay. A new SNI coordinator has been provided by the DA’s office.
