A Statement from Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation: Unjust and Intolerable

Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation joins with others in our community, in our country, and around the world in expressing our grief and outrage following the horrific murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

We are only too aware that theirs are but the most recent of countless killings of Black people – victims of violence driven by hatred and systemic, structural racism that has plagued America for too long.

We have seen how this poison permeates our society and how its disproportionate pain and suffering bleeds into areas of public health, as COVID-19 has appallingly revealed. It deprives us and our friends, neighbors, and families of the most essential human rights of life, liberty, and property.

Since our founding more than forty years ago, Dorchester Bay has focused on creating safer and healthier neighborhoods, and empowering individuals to build for themselves and their communities a better future.

There is so much more to be done.

We stand in solidarity and join our voices with those of our community and demand that no person be permitted to be shielded by office or badge and be exempt from the network of obligations that binds us all in a functional society that values equity and human rights.

As an organization and as individuals, therefore, we pledge to continue the fight for equity, opportunity, and justice. We pledge to strengthen our community and redouble our efforts to help build a tidal wall against the forces of systemic racism and other pathologies that seek to erode our fundamental rights.

We condemn and abhor the historical and current violence against Black, brown and indigenous peoples, and we pledge never to yield to those forces that would marginalize or take away from our community the opportunities and the rights that all should enjoy. We pledge to do everything within our power to strengthen the resolve of all those fighting to create a more just and equitable society.
